Welcome!

Wargear specializes in painting miniatures for wargaming and roleplaying, and creating realistic and attractive wargame terrain pieces, as well as providing a home on the web for whatever miniature gaming stuff I find interesting. This website originally started as a site to promote my miniatures painting side business, but it has grown to be a more general wargames, miniatures and RPG resource site which I hope will be helpful to all gamers!

Cool paper buildings/vehicles

Paper Tiger Armaments was featured on TMP today, and I thought I'd post a link to them here as well - looks like a pretty cool source of tanks and buildings and what not - made of paper!

And unfortuantely, this post is a pretty good indicator of how much time I've had for this stuff lately - not much. But hopefully things will settle down in a month or so. And Origins is coming up, which means I'll inevitably buy some stuff - some of which I'll paint, and even less of which I'll ever game with...

GURPS sample encounter

One of my plans for the summer, when hopefully I and my friends have a bit more time is to get a GURPS campaign running. Been really busy with work lately, but still getting a little time now and then to play some  Hearts of Iron - a strategic-level WWII wargame that lets you take control of pretty much any nation in the war. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before. Every so often the mood for a complex, in-depth strategy game strikes me, and I'm back to HOI.

Anyways, this time I was playing Soviet Russia. [Insert your own "In Soviet Russia..." joke here]. I did the "Grand Campaign", starting in 1936. I almost always play this campaign, as I like the planning involved with building up for the inevitable war you know is coming, and trying new strategies. Plus I wanted to play the USSR in the late game which models the Cold War and see what it's like.

Anyways, I tried one early war with Germany, attacking when they were busy fighting France. Didn't go so well, so I reloaded the game. Then things followed a pretty standard path, with the Germans attacking in spring 1941. The war went better for me than it did in reality, and by 1944 I'd conquered Germany, as well as turning Poland, Bulgaria and Italy into puppet states. I had most of the former German territory, while the US and France had the rest.
