Camera Review - Fuji Finepix Z10

As promised here's a review of my new Fuji FinePix Z10 . Now, I didn't get this camera to take pics of minis  - my old Sony has worked quite well for that, and it has all the manual bells and whistles needed to do it right. But I was curious to see how this one would work out.

My goal was to get an extremely portable camera. The sony is good, but it's quite bulky, and I wanted something I could easily carry with me all the time for those spur of the moment type shots. Plus I had a $100 Best Buy gift card from Christmas to use! So this fits the bill - it was about $150, is smaller than a deck of cards, and with a 1gig card in it, it'll hold about 250 pics. But it has a tiny little lens - so how well would it do on pictures?

New Gallery Section

I've added a new gallery to my gallery section of the site - containing pictures that may be useful to modelers, mini painters, etc. who are looking for reference or inspiration. I'll keep adding to it over the coming weeks!

I've also spent some time cleaning up the older galleries - fixing titles, keywords, etc.

Patton Tank M47

I believe this is a Patton M47 tank that's at a memorial at a small town near where I live. Quite a surprise to come around a bend in the road and see that beast!

Log Cabins (Photo Reference)

Log cabinsLog cabins were a staple of the American landscape for probably a good three centuries. As such, they can be a useful terrain item for any wargame set in the colonial or American Civil War period. Luckily they tend to be fairly simple structurally, and there were also a wide variety of styles. If you're thinking about building one of these for your collection, this photo reference may be useful to you. Read on for photographs of three very different log cabins.

Feast of the Hunters Moon 2004, Fort Ouiatenon Indiana

18th century british uniformsThe "Feast of the Hunters Moon" is an annual even held at the Fort (near West Lafayette, Indiana) every year. It's intended to recreate a fur trapper's rendezvous of the type that were common on the frontier during the colonial period. It features a huge number of merchants selling everything from food (most of which is at least relatively authentic - no Chinese food here!) to period goods like clothing, weapons, etc.

It's also a great source of pictures of 18th century "stuff" - uniforms, guns, etc.

Revoutionary War Pics
OK, so my time machine isn't working quite right yet - it only goes in one directon at the rate of one second per second, so these picture aren't actually from going back in time to the Revolutionary War - they're from an encampment of reenactors. Still may be useful for 18th century colonial wargamers!
